Whitney and Bobby: Engagement Shoot

It has been so long since I last posted a blog....things are busy around here! But, I had to take the time and post a few sneak-peaks of a fabulous couple. I have known Whitney since we were both little kids, so it was such a joy to be shooting her engagement photos. Whitney and Bobby are an amazing couple who love each other so much, and still put God first in their relationship. They are truly great examples of living out a relationship filled with integrity. Whitney- I am beyond excited for you and Bobby, and cannot wait for the wedding! Ecc. 4:12 :)

Now, here are some sweet pictures...

Behind the scenes: cake chaos!

This weekend, my mom and I were asked to make a Little Mermaid cake for a friend's daughter. We love doing cakes, and this little girl happens to be my former student (from my student teaching days). Thus, we had to say yes...although character cakes are crazy! It takes time and detail to make them go over successfully. If you mess up a character cake, the little ones will be hugely disappointed. Usually with a cake like this, we make all the fondant pieces the day before so they have time to "set up". Yesterday, my mom began making these pieces and soon I had to get in on it.You see, my mom's Ariel was channeling Princess Fiona instead. I'll let you be the judge ;)....

So, after looking up Ariel pictures for better inspiration, we were off to a fresh start. Things started to turn up. Pieces were coming together. Then, we began making the cake. Here it is barely covered with fondant.

All of the food coloring used...goodness!

Here is the "Cake Boss" in all her glory. You know what? Now that she is going to be a grandma, her goal is to retire, babysit, and make cakes. Thus, email me if you would love this crazy-cake-momma to make you a cake.

Looking better, huh? Below is the finished product. So excited with how it turned out, and I hope that little Tenley loves it! She deserves a fabulous cake.

Close-up of Ariel. Notice the cupcake in her hand?

Happy Happy Birthday Tenley!! And to all of you friends reading this, I used a lens I NEVER shoot with for these pictures. I'm kind of loving the creamy bokeh effect. So, in honor of this new lens, I am offering a free shoot to the first person who messages me on facebook. That means 20 free images! Ideally, this lens is great for shooting 1-2 persons. Can't wait to hear from you! Enjoy the three-day weekend. :)

Kim and Cory

I LOVE this couple soo much! Kim and Cory are fabulous friends and an adorable couple. So when they asked me to take some pictures for a "Happy New Year" card, I jumped at the occasion. These two braved the cold with me the day after Christmas, and despite the wind, we got some fun shots! Here are some favorites of mine...

                                                                Gorgeous....

Happy New Year!!!

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and a Happy New Year! Our family had a great Christmas....low-key and simple, as promised. We were so blessed to have our far-away family members join us for the Christmas season. Even David made it home for two weeks, which was so nice! It was great soaking up the family chats, traditions, and laughter. One tradition of ours is to host a gingerbread house decorating contest. Even though all of us kids are older, it still gets intense. My mom went all-out gathering candy and making loads of icing. {Last year some arguments broke out over an icing shortage. Needless to say, we had plenty this year ;) } There was candy, icing, cheerios, sprinkles, and graham crackers all over the floor by the end of the night. It was so much fun. Here are a few glimpses of the decorating chaos:

Rikki's gingerbread house. Do you notice the three little gingerbread people in front? ;)

Ryan's gingerbread house: the WINNER! It started out pitiful and falling apart; yet somehow Ryan redeemed his house. He even made a porch with a waving person. :)

Happy New Year! I pray 2011 is a blessed year for you all! :)

Theresa and Kyle: Engagement Shoot

I met Theresa and Kyle through a family friend, and am so thankful to be taking their photos. A little while ago, Rikki and I took this beautiful couple out of town for a photo-shoot. These two are a photographer's dream because they are so laid-back and easy-going. They were up for anything, and their love for each other is present in all the pictures. Although it was a freezing morning, they were great sports, and we truly enjoyed hanging out with them. Now, enough said. Here are some pictures:

Aren't they so cute?!

Sweet...

Thanks again Theresa and Kyle for an awesome time. We can't wait for your wedding this summer!
